Rewind to the early 90’s. No one could have ever imagined being able to look up the meaning of a simple English word right on your mobile phone, let alone an English to Urdu dictionary. Back in those days, we were stuck with big, bulky promptories which we’d carry around everywhere, especially when reading a book or going to work. Thanks to the advent of technology, you can now simply download an app on your phone and refer to a dictionary as and when you please.
If you’re an English speaker who wants to understand how to say an English word in Urdu, then an English to Urdu dictionary app can come very handy. This is especially useful when traveling to a place where Urdu is spoken widely or when you want to communicate work-related stuff clearly. These apps also work the other way around; i.e., they can also translate from Urdu to English. So if you’re a native Urdu speaker and want to improve your English, these apps can be quite beneficial even then.
In case you’ve already searched the play store for English to Urdu dictionary apps, you’ll perhaps be aware of the countless options available. However, not all of them are of the same quality. Therefore, team of Dreamy Tricks done the tedious task of sorting the best ones for you. Take a look –
1. English Urdu Dictionary Offline Plus Translator:
Boasting of an excellent user rating on the Play Store, this app features over 300,000 words that you can look up in both, English and Urdu. Apart from that, it also comes with an in-built multilingual paragraph translator. A few of its key features include offline browsing, English to Urdu dictionary, Urdu to English dictionary, English to English dictionary, Roman dictionary, English Urdu Psychology (to find more information about terms related to Psychology), and a Learn English tool (Urdu edition) for learning basic grammar, phrases, and tenses. This app aids in getting a better grasp of English and Urdu, beyond the vocabulary. What’s more? It also offers antonyms and synonyms, and auto-suggestion for both the languages. If you’re not sure about how to pronounce a particular word, you can also use the pronunciation tool that comes with a voice search feature. The app is super easy to use and is my personal favorite.
You may also like working ways to type in Hindi using English keyboard.
2. English Urdu Dictionary (Innovative Software):
Yet another well-rated English to Urdu Dictionary app, this app also works offline, similar to the one mentioned above. Aside from enabling users to search for meanings in either English or Urdu, it also allows them to find words straight from a browser or even other apps using the sharing tool. The sharing tool will show up the option “Urdu Dictionary” and upon clicking this option, you’ll be able to see the meaning of the shared word, without having to type it manually. Some of its other features are offline word database, auto-suggestion, synonyms, antonyms, word game, voice search for pronunciation, search using browser, search using the sharing tool, back & restore tools, and search history. What I really like about the app is that you can add certain words to a feature called “study plan” in order to learn the words thoroughly. You can remove these words and add new ones whenever you wish.

One important thing to note is that the app scours the database for matching words. This can hinder your typing speed, especially on smaller devices. The good news is that you can turn this off from Settings.
3. English Urdu Dictionary (Xung Le):
This app is quite a popular one amongst users. Again, it works as a dictionary as well as a translator even without an internet connection. Based on my personal experience, I can say that looking up meanings for both, English and Urdu words is quite fast and smooth on this app. Similar to the aforementioned apps, this app by Xung Le also offers smart word-suggestions, search through web browser, search via other apps, and an offline text punctuation. The feature I really liked is that it comes with a picture dictionary, which makes it easier to understand certain words. If you want to ensure the drilling of a word in your head, you can use the “word reminder” tool. The only downside that I noticed was that it lacks antonyms and the voice search does not work offline. However, we hope that the developer looks into this and resolves it with their next update.
4. English Urdu Dictionary Free (SE Develop):
Though not as extensive a database as the first app on the list, this app features an impressive database of roughly 117,000 articles. It requires you to be connected to a Wi-Fi network only when using for the first time. Then onwards, you can use it offline. A few of its main features include search history, favorites list, a tool for managing both, history and favorites, customization settings such as font size and theme, text-to-speech tool (works online), and context word search for translation. The best part about this app is that it shows you one random word everyday so you learn new words even if you don’t have the time to look a word up otherwise. You can enable this widget by installing the app to your phone memory. As far as design is concerned, I think it is pretty awesome.
My only complaint is that the internal memory is quite limited and in order to search the next word, you’ll have to delete the previous one.
Summing Up:
Overall, these apps work brilliantly, allowing you to find meanings in English as well as Urdu while also being able to translate from one language to another. However, its important to bear in mind that majority of these apps contain ads. If you want an ad-free experience, you may upgrade to the premium version from within the app, provided they offer that option.
